  • 1 small head small head of cabbage, shredded Shred thin for even cooking.
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey Use turkey to cut fat.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped For flavor base.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic preferred.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella) Feel free to use different cheeses.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 egg egg (optional, for binding) Optional for firmer slices.
  • Olive oil (for greasing) Use for greasing the baking dish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat some olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until translucent.
  3. Add the ground beef or turkey to the skillet, cooking until browned. Season with salt, black pepper, paprika, and Italian seasoning.
Assembly and Cooking
  1. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the shredded cabbage.
  2. Spread the cooked meat mixture over it and top with cheese.
  3. Add the remaining cabbage on top. If using, beat the egg and drizzle over the top for extra binding.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the cabbage is tender and the top is golden.
  5. Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Serve warm with a salad, mashed potatoes, or steamed vegetables. Optional to add ketchup, hot sauce, or sour cream. Ensure the cabbage is shredded thin for optimal cooking.
